Leading the Way: Strategies for educational and community inclusion

Daniel Lederer’s personal narrative demonstrates a model for successful inclusive education and community living for individuals with significant disabilities. Proven methods for inclusive education including Programs at a Glance; Skills Matrices and collaborative planning will be reviewed. Community living strategies such as Person-Centered Planning and Social Role Valorization will be discussed. Methods to involve professionals such as therapists and special education teachers will be reviewed. By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to identify actions that can be implemented to create successful inclusive experiences for individuals with significant disabilities especially Programs at a Glance; Skills Matrices and collaborative planning By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to explain steps that can be put into place for inclusive community life to be successful especially Person- Centered Planning and Social Role Valorization By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to articulate how the inclusion of individuals with significant needs can be a transformative experience for teachers and other students without disabilities.
