This presentation will offer an argument and solutions in favor of people with disabilities transitioning from nursing homes to interdependent, community living experiences. Public/mass transit needs to be accessible to all PWDs to manage a secure, inclusive, community-based lifestyle without dependence on intermediary agencies. Accessible/affordable housing is interconnected with accessible transportation in the real lives of people with disabilities, especially to gain/maintain employment.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- 1. Examine the interconnections among accessible housing, transportation, and employment in one’s own environment
- 2. Grasp potential solutions to seek out when negotiating one’s own future goals
- 3. Utilize techniques to research interdependent living options in one’s own environment
