In my proposal, I will present my personal experience about how I have gained confidence through self-expression, such as writing poetry, doing speeches, writing music, and researching ways to advocate for self and others with disabilities. I will also propose ways teachers can incorporate some of the things that have helped me into their own classrooms. 1. Participants will understand how I have used the arts to build my confidence and self-esteem so they can possibly incorporate more arts into their teaching. 2. Participants will understand how I have used the arts to build my self-determination so they can possibly incorporate more arts into their teaching and encourage self-determination in their students with disabilities. 3. Participants will see examples of my poetry, music, and other written words. I believe this is an important part of my ability to advocate for myself and others. 4. Participants will learn more about using different strategies and thinking outside the box to enhance the advocacy skills in their students.
