Assessment of Services: A School Based Supported Education Fidelity Scale

There has been an increase in the use of supported employment in the schools as more and more transition led efforts are calling for employment prior to exiting school. This presentation will discuss the development and piloting of a School Based Supported Employment Fidelity Scale for secondary special education teachers or transition specialists to use as a self-assessment of their employment related services. As a result of this presentation, participants will: 1) Understand the importance of employment prior to exiting school and how it is an evidence based predictor of post school transition success in postsecondary education, employment and independent living; 2) Learn about the development of a school based supported employment fidelity scale to assist special educators and transition specialist to conduct a self-assessment of their school’s employment related services; 3) Understand what special educators and transition specialist participating in a research pilot are saying about the use of the scale in their localities; 4) Learn about the next steps for further research on the fidelity scale; and 5) Understand the tool can be used to assess employment related activities, for example, age appropriate transition assessment, student access to career exploration, access to transportation and other key areas.
